Part lecture-demonstration, part contemporary dance performance, part Queer clown turn, “Bad Poetry: Live in Halifax!” is a testament to how loving one's own bad poetry can lead to self acceptance. Created and performed by professional improvisers, this show will grant you the license to fly by the seat of your pants.

Bad Poetry: It's a dance piece. It's a support group. It's a world view

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Sara Porter was originally inspired by an article by English professor, Dr. Tristanne Connolly called, "The Importance of Loving Bad Poetry". The article highlights Queerness, the necessity for creativity, humour, and self acceptance and how all those elements can be found in an appreciation of bad poetry. We are delighted to have received permission from Dr. Connelly to use the article for this work.

This prompted Sara to create a Facebook group called “The Bad Poetry Drinking Group”, a non-critical online forum as a community activity to fight isolation during COVID. Group members posted their original poetry in a non-judgemental and playful environment to stay creatively engaged. Over 150 group members across Canada, the US and Europe have made 'bad poetry' together. Through zoom meetings, we shared and created Community Poems.
